Electric Positivity: New Soul

Over the past two weeks I have taken classes at Soul Cycle Short Hills taught by the incredible Erika! I have used her classes to create this incredible playlist and workout for you! Enjoy!

Workout: Like all Soul Cycle classes this workout will focus on riding to the beat!  Adjust your resistance to match the pace. In addition, we will be adding some weight exercises and meditation into the workout. This will give you a full body, mind, and soul workout! Follow our guide below to help you!

Guide: Before you begin you will need a bottle of Water, a towel, and  1lb or 3lb set of dumbells.

A Majority of this workout will be performed standing on the bike with your butt off the seat! This position is referred to Position 2!

You've Got The Love - Florence + The Machine: Follow the beat of the snare drum. Enjoy the beautiful voice of Florence.

Runnin' (Lose It All) - Naughty Boy, Beyonce, Arrow Benjamin: Slightly increase the resistance in the beginning of the song to match the slower beat. When the snare picks up match your pace to the beat. Use a 1, 2 count.

Love Myself - Hailee Steinfeld: Continue to the follow the beat! Most importantly, listen to the lyrics of the song! Love YOURSELF!! SMILE!

Someone Like You (Remix) - Adele: Pause the Spotify Playlist and Play the Soundcloud Track Below: This is where our workout takes it to another level. We will introduce the Oblique Move on the bike. To perform the oblique move, flex your core, and drop one of your elbows down while keeping the other arm straight. This will will allow you to perform an oblique crunch. Perform the oblique crunch on the left side for the first half of the song (2 minutes). After that perform the oblique crnch on the right side for the remainder of the song (2 minutes). If you can't perform the oblique crunch, don't sweat it. Keep riding to the beat!

Something Better - Audien and Lady Antebellum: Follow the clap sound in the chorus! Feel Free to pick up your pace when the beat drops!

Your Soul - Hippie Sabotage: Grab your set of dumbbells!  While lifting increase your resistance on your bike. Continue to the pedal. If you find yourself leaning forwards, then increase the resistance even more. We want to ensure good posture for your lift! We will start with bicep curls. Lift your biceps on the sound of the snare, and drop them on the sound of the bass. When the songs slows down near the 1:30 mark, switch the lift to a shoulder press. Lift your arms on the sound of the snare, and drop them on the sound of the bass. When the song picks up, feel free to pick up your pace of the lift. When the song slows down around the 3:30 mark, we will change the lift to triceps. Lean forward on your bike and push your arms back.

Bad Blood - Ryan Adams: This will be the meditation part of our workout. This song will just be you and the bike. Take 3 deep cleansing breaths: inhaling through the nose, and exhaling through the mouth. During this song think of your goals for the fall, and the progress you made!

I Can Be Somebody - Deorro: This is the last song of the playlist! Pickup the pace, and give this song your all!!!  TELL YOURSELF YOU CAN BE SOMEBODY!!!!

Wrecking Ball - James Arthur: Cool Down with this lovely cover of Wrecking Ball.   Stretch your calfs, hamstrings, and quads!
